New Running Shoes

So I've had my Nike Pegasus running shoes for the last 3 years and I was definitely in need of some new shoes. Truman wanted to get these new special kind of running shoes, so on Friday night we went to runnning shoe store. One of the girls there is trying to sell Truman on this foam roller to work out his IT band, yatta yatta. I, in the mean time see these shoes in all their cuteness on the clearance table (for no particular reason I might add). I was instantly drawn to them because they were cute and then lucky me, they happened to be size 7 and clearance. Then I hear the girl who was helping Truman say, "yeah, sometimes girls buy running shoes just because they're cute colors like pink or purple" {as I'm trying my purple shoes on, already mentally purchasing them} hahah. So what? I'm not a marathon runner, a triathelete, I don't run for that matter, haha. I don't really care if one shoe is better for this or that, I've never had problems with any of my Nike shoes. I do plan on starting to jog with Truman again (pray for me), but otherwise I just use my shoes for my gym class. Guilty of buying running shoes just because they're fuscia, purple, and black? Guilty as charged.

There's just something about a new running shoe that makes you excited to work out! I went to my Turbo Kick class yesterday and I swear I worked out two times harder (and I looked two times cooler while doing it, haha). Oh and Truman bought the foam roller. Sold.

Speaking of Turbo Jam...

Font sizeFor Christmas 2008, I got these home work-out DVD's and have loved them ever since! The creator is a lady named Chalene Johnson. I grew not only to love the workouts she made, but the fun and energizing music she put them to. She is a super motivating instructor even though the video, haha. When we got the gym memberships to 24 Hour Fitness, I was really excited because they did Turbo Kick classes (which is what she created first, 13 years ago, & is the gym version of Turbo Jam).

She has also created Cha'Lean' Extreme (curcuit training), PiYo (mix of Pilates & Yoga), Turbo Fire (harder/faster, more sports training Turbo Kick class) and Hip Hop Hustle (fitness Hip Hop class).

When I was in my Turbo Kick class on Monday, my instructor said that Chalene Johnson (who lives in Southern California) would be coming to Park City on Friday at 6pm & would be doing a class for FREE!

Truman & I made a date out of it --no, I wish he went to the class with me, haha-- but we drove down there, I got to attend the hour class of Turbo Kick and half hour class of Hip Hop Hustle taught by Chalene Johnson and her best friend Monic. Truman went running, exercised, etc. on his own. Then we got some Cafe Rio afterwards for dinner!

The class had about 40 people in it & was mainly filled with some Turbo fanatics (such as I) and Turbo instructors. I have been exercising to her videos for the past year, and taking her classes at the gym, so it was super fun to attend a class taught by the creator. She has a crazy amount of energy and was so fun!

This is her and her friend Monica on the left. They changed into this clothing for the Hip Hop Hustle portion.

My Turbo Kick instructor from 24 who invited me to the event is the girl to the right of Chalene Johnson, named Shukria, she's so fun!

Chalene Johnson & me, Ahh I got a picture with her! She's famous to me! haha.

Excuse the sweaty nastiness, but we all just finished working for a hour and a half of butt-busting cardio. It was so much fun!

24 Hour Fitness

I had been feeling pretty "Blah" lately. End of September, Truman & I started running together consistenly. We would usually run about 2 miles, 4 days a week, and then would go running on trails in the mountains on Saturdays. Then...snow happened. We also went to California for Thanksgiving and Christmas break...and we got out of the groove. Then I was anxious/scared of working out again because I knew it would hurt because it had been a while, haha. Then I was dreading running out in the snow, I hate the cold!

Truman then mentioned getting a gym membership & this definitely appealed to me. 24 Hour Fitness is month-to-month and was having a great deal. So right before the first of the year we purchased memeberships to the 24 Hour Fitness-Sport in Provo. We have absolutely been loving it! We have been consistenly going for the last month, 5 days a week, for an hour. Truman is doing a lot of triathalon training, switching off between swimming, spinning, running, lifting weights, basketball, & one of Truman's favorites-- the sauna, haha.

I absolutely love 24's classes. They have a wide variety of 1 hour classes, and they're offered everyday except Sundays, & there's plently of times. My favorites and the ones that I've been attending are Turbo Jam/Kick, Pilates, & Zumba. I have been so sore (the good kind), feeling so great, & try to never miss my classes!

Turbo Jam is inspired by dance and martial arts moves, targeting specific muscle groups or body parts to strengthen and sculpt your physique and promote overall balance and core strength.

Pilates is an innovative system of mind-body exercise. It builds strength without excess bulk, creating a sleek, toned body. It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. Pilates improves flexibility, agility and economy of motion.

Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music with easy-to-follow moves and dance that creates a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system.

Step Kardio Fusion Class

When Truman & me were driving home from Christmas Break, my friend Cassidy got in touch with me and wanted to know if I wanted to do an excercise class at BYU with her and my other friend Jill. I of course said yes, and we found a class that worked for all of our schedules! I really enjoy excercise classes because it gives you that much more motivation to work-out, and it's like you feel a responsibility to go haha. What makes it even better is that I have it with two of my best buds from high school! Cassidy, Jill, & I all went to Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs, California. We all eventually came out here for school, so this class is a really fun way to keep the contact going, hang out, AND excercise! All of us are really enjoying the class, it's a mix of step aerobics, kick boxing, turbo, free weights, and a little bit of yoga and pilates. It's fun to joke around, laugh, and excercise with them three times a week. We have it every Monday & Wednesday evening and Saturday mornings for an hour. Another funny part about this picture is that I'm wearing a PHS Link Crew shirt and Cassidy is wearing a PHS Grad Night '05 shirt haha. What can we say, they make great work-out shirts? Go Bruins! haha.
