Ringing in the New Year

We rang in the New Year with Joe & Tracy this year. We had lasagna and then played a very long and fun (for Tracy & me at least) game of Scrabble. It all started with Truman taking the first turn and placing his first word right justified & after a few hours we were still unable to utilize 1/4 of the board. haha. Truman eventually gave up and fell asleep on the sofa. Joe, Tracy, & I went were within points of each other but Tracy pulled into the lead at the very end and won!

Tracy made the dough for scones and Joe did an excellent job of cooking them.

We had them with a combination of maple syrup, powdered sugar, nutella, and honey. It was Truman & mine's first time having home-made scones and they were declicious! Mmmm....

And a little bit of this to celebrate the end of a good year and a start of a new one...

Christmas Morning with the Westons

Truman has not had a Christmas morning at his home in probably 6 years. It was due time and a great time! Not all the kids could make it but his younger sister Hayley and her husband Jake and us spent the night Christmas Eve. We woke up to a scrumptious breakfast of hot chocolate with Christmas colored and shaped marshmallows, broccoli cheese and pepper jack quiche, cinnamon rolls, and fruit salad.

Truman's Dad frosting the cinnamon rolls. He tried using only half the given frosting! haha. He finally gave in and put the rest of the container of frosting on the cinnamon rolls.

It was such a nice morning and great presents including our first nativity! I can't wait to set it up next year. Thank you Becky & Spencer!

Yum!

Hayley likes leopard print and gets cold easily so we gave her a leopard Snuggie this year for Christmas. haha. After seeing it, I kind of want one... This is her imitating the Snuggie commercials when the actors are dancing. haha.

Truman received this knife from Jake & Hayley. Truman loves knives...

Then we went to my Mom and Dad's for Christmas afternoon and were spoiled with more presents. We are so lucky to have our families only 10 minutes away from each other! We spent the afternoon playing Wii Mariokart, eating more sugar (didn't even bother with candy anymore, just pure cane sugar, haha jk), exchanging presents, & enjoying time with family.

San Francisco

Truman decided to take a day off so we planned a trip to San Francisco for the day. With it only being about 45 minutes away it makes for a easy day trip & with San Francisco there is endless things to do. Our sister-in-law Tracy told us about an awesome scenic drive we had to do.

The Golden Gate Park was enormous! I had no idea SF had so much undeveloped land with an amazing park like this. I guess they figure they'll cram all the houses together with no yards, and then preserve some beautiful areas that everyone can enjoy. It was so gorgeous to drive through.

We were truly so fortunate because it was such a beautiful day in San Francisco! The day before we went it had been down pouring rain! We brought two umbrellas and planned for the worst, but all we had were blue skies and sunshine. Chilly and jacket-worthy, but clear as could be!

Walk down Fisherman's Wharf to Ghirardelli Square to get the Ghirardelli Sea Salt Caramel Hot Cocoa. It was to die for... I think it was just melted caramel chocolate bars.

Gigantic Christmas tree! This was a real tree, extra branches were wired in to make it more full, but it was a real tree and decorated so beautifully! Then huge presents all around the circumference.

We bought tickets for the Alcatraz Night Tour and it was so fun. The Night tour made it especially spooky and they do extra programs and tours afterward that go into greater detail of the different escapes, night lock down demonstration, etc.

Alcatraz Island is only 1.5 miles offshore from San Francisco and Truman shot some great pictures on the ferry ride over. What a beautiful time of day to be out on the water with the sunset!

Alcatraz Island

Something I learned about Alcatraz was that it was not a place to try to rehabilitate the prisoners. If you were sent to Alcatraz it meant society had lost any hope in you and this was a place you were sent to be controlled. The audio tour was fascinating with all the sound effects and it being narrated and commented on by former prisoners and prison guards. We especially enjoyed the programs afterward learning all the details of the escapes & attempted escapes.

Solitary confinement. Shudder.

Truman & I had a great getaway together. We'll definitely have to come back to San Francisco and explore some more. Thanks for taking the day off Truman, I had a lot of fun with you!
